What happens always happens; nothing else ever happens.
This may be the most redundant statement ever made. It may also be also the most essential understanding for your peace of mind. It is so obvious it defies expansion or explanation.
However, you usually think, respond emotionally and act as if something else really could be happening now. That something may be better, in which case you want to change what is actually happening now. It may seem to be worse, in which case you want to hold on to whatever seems to be happening now. Either way, this generates mental stress, anxiety, since you do not know how to change or to hold on to what is happening now.
In fact it is impossible. This is because anything, other than what is actually happening now, is necessarily a thought and not something real. It cannot be real since the only real thing is of course what is actually happening. You can not possibly hold on to or get rid of something that is not there in the first place.
When you realize this deeply, mental stress and anxiety do not appear.
Life is easier.
Meditation
Sit in a quiet, comfortable place.
Observe your experience as it changes from moment to moment – your surroundings, your sensations and your thoughts and emotions.
Whenever a desire for or fear of change occurs, check whether the alternative (desired or feared situation) is real (now) or a thought.
As clarity increases, stress decreases and eventually vanishes from life.
Wishing you unconditional, permanent happiness and peace of mind,
Or at least an easy weekend,
Jonathan
