The real does not die, the unreal never lived

Share this:

Nisargadatta Maharaj stated: “The real does not die; the unreal never lived.”

The Buddhists say that the only reason you will die is that you believe you were born.

Through study and meditative practice, as it becomes clear that you are not what you think you are, you no longer have to worry about surviving. In reality, you cannot die, since that which was never born never existed, in reality, and so there is nothing that can die.

This brings great peace.

Meditation

Sit in a quiet comfortable place.
Observe your thoughts coming and going.
Observe your bodily sensations as they change from moment to moment.
Observe your breath going in and out.
Listen to the sound.
Watch your surroundings.
Ask yourself, “Who am I?”
Any answer is not who you are but who you think you are.
Ask yourself, “Who am I if not that?”
Continue until there are no answers.
Only silence. Peace.
