When you look for the truth, or reality, you do not find it. This does not mean there is no truth or that you are not trying hard enough, but rather that the thing you were looking for was not the truth.
The truth, reality is simply what actually happens. You cannot look for that because it is already happening. Nothing else ever happens.
Whatever you were looking for was an idea, otherwise you could not search. Only the search itself is redundant. This is what is meant by the saying, “If you meet the Buddha on the road, kill him.” You cannot meet the truth anywhere. It is already happening. You cannot go “there” because it is here, wherever you are already.. “Here” is the only place you cannot travel to.
Through study with a teacher and regular meditation you hear, understand and deeply internalize this. At this point your search dissolves, leaving you only peace.
