So-called spiritual enlightenment, satori and awakening are illusions only if you believe they refer to something real. It is useful to remember that everything is real. Everything, that is, except for what you think – concepts, ideas, opinions and mental constructs including such things as spiritual enlightenment, satori, awakening and even the idea of illusions. In reality, in the unconditioned mind, we find none of these.
Your experience just is. What you call it is something else – a thought which represents nothing real. Many people have experienced enhanced states of awareness. Calling it satori or enlightenment or awakening neither adds to nor removes from the original experience. But an additional experience of thinking, of conceptual creating may thus occur.
In the unconditioned mind there is only what is. You can call it reality, experience or whatever. It does not matter. The so-called illusion is only mistaking words and ideas for something real. As this dissolves, the unreal ceases to trouble you.
