A student of mine plays a game with his eleven year old son at bedtime. He asks his son what he planned when he woke up and what actually happened during the day. If they are the same, that is regarded as strange!
If you observe closely, you will be amazed how many times you are mistaken about people and situations. Things are so often different from what you thought they were or were going to be. As you get use to being amazed and as the amazement begins to fade as a result, you may find that these to begin to separate naturally, the picture you have in your mind and reality as it actually happens.
As this separation stabilizes you find yourself less troubled by the picture, which consists of your memories, your hopes, your desires, your expectations, your opinions, your judgments, your prejudices and all the other myriad thoughts and mental constructs.
You no longer expect your expectations to necessarily correspond to what happens.
There are less surprises.
Life is easier.
Sit in a quiet comfortable place.
Observe what is happening in your surroundings.
Observe what is happening in your body.
Observe what is happening in your mind.
Rest in this natural awareness.
Have a good day.
