Meditation is no more than being awake

Share this:

Resting in natural awareness.
– Longchen Rabjam

Meditation is no more than being naturally awake, simply presencing what happens.

Thus it is impossible to meditate; meditation may occur. Or not. Either way it is not you that controls it.

What we call practicing meditation is merely creating favorable conditions for meditation to occur naturally – quiet, lack of distractions, concentration, awareness. But just as favorable conditions do not guarantee that a flower will grow, so favorable conditions only encourage the meditation that may occur spontaneously.

When you appreciate this, your meditation is calmer and more effective.
