I look after other people but not after myself

Share this:

Celia: I look after other people but not after myself. How can I change that?

Jonathan: You only think you look after other people but not after yourself. In fact you are building up a store of resentment which harms both you and others. You cannot possibly look after other people but not after yourself in practice because you are connected to, influenced by and influence other people in more ways than you can begin to understand. The Buddha said that you can search throughout the entire universe for someone who is more deserving of your love and affection than you are yourself, and that person is not to be found anywhere. You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe deserve your love and affection.

Understand that you can find no rational basis for discrimination and you will treat all people equally including yourself. That is compassion.
